Nepa \Ne"pa\, n. [L. nepa scorpion.] (Zo["o]l.)
   A genus of aquatic hemipterus insects. The species feed upon
   other insects and are noted for their voracity; -- called
   also {scorpion bug} and {water scorpion}.
